The Moonindra Nath and Indranee Varma Memorial Trust was set up in August 2018 in memory of Yatin’s parents. It has as trustees his sisters Sucheta Ramburrun, Kavita Chukowry, Sangeeta Varma and himself. The Trust has as objectives the relief of poverty, advancement of religion and other purposes beneficial to the public in general. It also assists in the publication of books and assistance to old people.

Moonindra Nath Varma


He joined politics for a short span of time after which he joined the Ministry of Education. He was an Executive Committee member of the Arya Sabha, manager of the DAV and New Eton Colleges. He was among the founding members of the Triveni Club in Beau Bassin and the Nirvan in Quatre-Bornes.

Moonindra Nath VARMA was born on 19th April, 1929. His father Ramavatar Nath VARMA, a planter and an Arya Samaj Pandit and his mother Radhika Varma(born Sibartie), a house wife. He held many qualifications from the University of Delhi and University of Lucknow namely LLB (Hons), Master of Arts (MA), Diploma in Foreign Affairs and Diploma in Public Administration. When he came back after his studies, he also founded the Imperial College in Curepipe.

He passed away on 19th January 2018 at the age of 88.

Indranee Varma


Indranee Varma was born on 01st April 1941. She was brought up by her mother Imreetee Jhuboo. She was a teacher at the Hindu Girls College and devoted her last years of her life to social service. She was in turn President of the Mauritius Alliance of Women and Chairperson of the Senior Citizens Council. She was also active in the Aryan Women’s League.

She passed away on 22nd December 2014 at the age of 73.
